Blog Angel Reveal

So remember here when I said I had a secret?
Well I am about to reveal to the whole wild world who I was a blog angel for!

Yep it is Amy from The Charming!
I hope I was all she ever wanted in an angel haha!
I promise I tried!

I did enjoy reading her posts. Here are some of my favorite posts by her:
Pretty much anything from her awesome wedding recap.
Awesome inspiration from the Olympics.
Her snapshots are always so cute! And some make me hungry!!
Also her blog design is so beautiful (she does her own!)

We have a lot in common (nursing school, both love games and books, and are both super pretty!)

We also have some differences.
She is tech savvy (she as all those social networking sites)
I know nothing about those and would probably fail at them.

She eats healthy meals. She can cook!
I am lazy and eat junk food. I cannot cook!

She has traveled all over!
I have not traveled all over!

She is an amazing photographer. (seriously wanna frame all her photos!)
I don't know my way around a point and shoot.

I am stopping there because she is cooler than me! haha!

I enjoyed being a blog angel. If you want more information, check it out here where I am linking up for today!

I hope everyone has an amazing weekend! I should because two of my best girlfriends are coming to visit me for the weekend!!

Blog Love

So lately I have been super busy with the new job and just life in general, but I can't go without acknowledging all the amazing people giving little old me awards!

I will say this and will say it over and over again.
I have the BEST readers!

So since I had a few nominations, I decided to acknowledge them and answer one question they each had for me.
(Hope you guys don't consider this cheating)

So here it goes:
Liebster Award:

Amy at Little Adventures. She lives in the Bahamas (where I went on my amazing honeymoon). She is super pretty and has a beautiful baby boy.

She asks: Have you ever been to a concert?

Why yes I have. I am just going to list the big concerts I have been to. I have been to a number of little ones (country, rock, indie, ska, pretty much seen it all). Two concerts I had tickets for got cancelled. That was for Evanescence and Nickelback. I was totally bummed about Nickelback because I really actually like them! I did end up getting to see Evanescence with Finger Eleven and Chevelle. I have also seen two American Idol concerts: this season with the winner being Phillip Phillips and the season where Adam Lambert was on. I also have seen Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson (Eric Hutchinson opened for her).

Amy at One Creative Procrastinating Gal/Color Me Inspired. She has two little adorable kids and stays home with them! She always has something positive to say!

She asks: How long does it take you to get ready to go somewhere special?

Depends on if my crazy thick mane of hair is dry or not. I usually can't get myself looking super special on occasions, but if I truly take a long time to get ready it will be about an hour. Getting ready for my wedding took longer when I got my hair and makeup done. I wish I could do that everyday!

Kim at The K.O. Jewelry. She is super cute and talented with her beautiful jewelry. No worries, there are definitely some pieces I am lusting over! Go check her out for sure!

She asks: What is your favorite sport?

I love swimming. I was a competitive swimmer for many years. I would really like to get back into it! My body was for the better! Other then that I really love to watch NFL football and enjoy seeing my sisters play tennis.

My BFF Tiffany at The Austin Family Diary. I have had so much fun doing this link up with her and was so glad to finally be able to meet her!

She asks: How many kids do you want?

Ideally I want 3. I could do with 2, but three would be perfect. I could go on about wanting 2 girls and 1 boy and features, but I just want beautiful, healthy and happy children with Kevin. (cue the awwws)

Whitney at Sippy Cups and Pearls. She is a super hot mama and finally another person (like me) who is not so fond of summer!

She asks: 100 degrees on the beach of 40 degrees in the mountains?

Well as much as I love beaches, I love cooler weather more. I love skiing every year so I will take that 40 please! (actually that would be really warm for skiing) I just feel like the clothes are cuter and since I have rosacea, I would burn like a critter out on that beach!

Sarah at Whimsical Mumblings. She is a big lover of chocolate like me and lives across the pond!

She asks: What is your favorite smell?

There are so many good choices! I guess I will just choose one of my favorites: Lilac.

Mary at A Happy Wife In New Orleans. She loves football (and one of her teams is Denver!) and is just super cute and sweet! I am praying for her as Issac effects her hometown.

She asks: What song always makes you happy when you hear it?

Haha her questions were so hard! I could go on and on...I am always happy to hear the NFL theme song! JK! No but really I am happy to hear: You and Me by Lifehouse (my first dance), Lights by Ellie Goulding (was very significant to me before she became famous in the states, and now it is weird hearing her song everyday on the radio), and Everything by Brad Paisley (my husband says it is me to a T)

Kenzie at Life and Lemons! She is a super hot mama who loves pink and country music! My kinda gal!

She asks: Have you read any mainstream series (Twilight, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, 50 Shades)? Did you like them? What was your favorite?

I have read Twilight, Hunger Games and Harry Potter. I am not a prude, bbut I don't plan on reading 50 Shades because I don't think it will be good. Out of all of those Harry Potter is my fave! Fun Fact, I have read all Harry Potter books (except for the 7th) in the double digits. ie. I have only read the 7th book I believe 4-5 times. Love them! I thought Twilight was sophomoric writing, but I I enjoyed the story in my head. The movies were utterly terrible due to Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, but to each their own...(I will still see them all!)

Versatile Blogger Award:

Amy from Faith and Hope Abound. She is going through nursing school and truly a sweet girl.

A random fact about yourself: I am so excited to be blogging and to have been blessed to read other people's blogs and know/be a part of their lives as they are in mine. It has been so amazing thus far and I am only getting warmed up!!! :-)

So thank you again awesome readers! And thank you for those who linked up for the 10 day challenge this week (it is still up if you wanna link up!)

10 Day You Challenge: 8 Fears

I apologize for posting so late! Super busy with work and finally meeting my BFF Tiffany! (See more below!) But another Tuesday means another challenge prompt, and this one was the hardest one for me of all...fears. This was hard because I feel like there are many things that I don't want to happen, but I am not necessarily scared that they will. You feel me?

My biggest fear for some reason? Centipedes. Like a crazy bad fear of them. It can't be normal. Chilopodophobia is what that is called in case you all were wondering. I also really don't like Scorpions.

Not being prepared: the biggest one is packing and thinking that I am missing something. No matter how long I plan and actually pack, I never feel truly prepared.

Tires blowing out. For some reason I always get this feeling that a tire has blown when I am driving and nothing is wrong. haha. I make up my own crap to scare myself. Healthy, no?

Losing my laptop. It is seriously my life line. I cannot/will not (my husband thinks its the latter) use my cell phone for anything other than talking on the phone, words/scramble with friends, and texting. Although now I have instagram! laurenw250! I have never had another laptop in my life. I guess I could lose it, but if everything wasn't backed up...ugh scary. I just got goosebumps!

Or losing Kevin. Let's pretend that I put this above my laptop. Better yet, this is in no specific order! haha! No but really, I couldn't imagine my life without him or my parents or sisters.

This is going to be the fear where everyone says..."Wow Lauren. Shallow much?" Well yeah- I am afraid that I won't be as attractive as I feel I should be. (If that made sense)

Having a future child that has a serious illness. I saw what my parents went through when my sister was diagnosed and fighting leukemia at the age of 5, and I never want to experience that.

I fear that Tiffany was out of my life way too long! I drove to Phoenix last night (with my friend Lisa) and met up with her for some yummy food! We had the best time! Not to get all psycho, who is this fool she met on the internet, but I felt we should have been best friends for years and years before blogging. Girls, (I don't think I have any male blog followers) If there is someone you love blogging and get to meet them...DO it. But be careful to fear that they have been out of your life for too many years!

Excuse our shininess. It was SUPER hot out side. Ugh boy and is that an attractive angle on me or what?!? Haha we are bad bloggers. We thought we got lots of pictures, but we really didn't...

The Most Exciting Weekend Update EVER

This weekend rocked for me! It all started Thursday when I had my first blate! (blogger date!) I met up with Meg who was in town visiting her parents. It was fun! Kinda like I blind date. Halfway there I realized I wished I was a fashion blogger because I don't know if people wear polo shirts anymore. Regardless, I did. Then that evening I had the best sandwich of my life and played Geeks who Drink in Tucson with Kevin's friends. (Anyone ever play Geeks?)

Then we went back to New Mexico to visit our families. Friday we went with Kevin's parents to my favorite restaurant Luna Rossa! Awesome pizza and amazing wine. It was a beautiful night.

Saturday we went to my parents house and hung out and had dinner. After dinner and a game of scrabble, we went to see two of my girlfriends quickly and then to Kevin's best friend's house. Fun fun!

Then Sunday we enjoyed a yummy brunch with Kevin's parents, I went shopping with my mom, and I watched Peyton Manning do work on the field!

But the best thing of all happened on Thursday.
You ready for this?

I am so excited and am off to do some HR stuff as we speak!
What will I be doing you ask?

I will be working as a nurse in Transitional Health Care in the Acute Care Unit.
I will prob do a post more about my job once I get into it.
Super excited!

Also excited for tomorrow's link up! I am sorry if I am a little busy with all of my orientation going on this week!

Blog Lessons

Today I am doing my first guest post ever at Jordy Liz Blogs. I feel like this is a big step as a new blogger. The post is about change and I hope you all enjoy it!

When I started this blog, not very long ago at all, my goal was to chronicle a new chapter of my life. Married, moving to a new city, I had always been a silent blog reader and decided to transition myself into a blogger as well. That being said, I would like to write this little post about what I have learned.

Followers: I see people kidding themselves when they say that they aren't excited to get more followers. I check my count daily and am super excited when it goes up!

So let me say this to my followers:
Thank you. I am excited you like me.

If I am following you, I read every single on of your posts. No exaggeration. What is the point of following someone if you do not read them. I am not going to follow your blog just for the sake of it. (Which is why I dislike people that follow people just to say follow me back...I love my numbers, but not that much!)

That being said I love commenting. I always want to comment back but it becomes a bit of a hassle for me to do so when you are a no-reply blogger. If you have ever commented on my blog and not gotten a response--consider yourself a no-reply blogger. If you are worried about having your real email address out there then make one just for your blog. (I have mine out there...I may change it, but not for the privacy, more for the ease of keeping it all away from my 235438 other emails. Many of us have personal emails attached to our blogs.

Here is how to correct that:
dashboard > edit profile > privacy > check the box that says "show my email address" > go to the identity section and enter the email address you want shown > click save profile

Also the word verification. I was super happy when Hilary told me that I was a word verification blogger (I think it automatically does that) Seriously though, I know they are so robots don't post on your blog, but I am not a robot and can have trouble getting them. I promise I have not had a robot comment since I have turned it off. So...

To turn word verification off: settings > posts and comments > show word verification > "NO"

I am not of this whole advertising with a blog the same "size" as yours thing. If you have 1 follower and want to advertise or guest post or whatever with a blog that has say 300 people, why should that blog with 300 people say no? We all started out with one follower. Help a blog out. I soon hope to make my own button and start entering that world, so let me know if you would like to swap, post, me to post, whatever! :-)

Tell me, are you a no reply blogger? Or do you even know? Leave a comment, and we can figure it out! It's so much more fun when we can chat back and forth!

Show & Tell:House Hunting Edition

Long time no post for me! But I promise to make up for it with amazing posts everyday this week!

I am so impressed with the creativity of link ups this summer! I couldn't pass this one up because it is about homes and since I have started house hunting it was a MUST!

If you were searching for a home now, tell me what would be on your "MUST" list.
Well just so happens that I am! I must have 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Open concept and I must be able to afford it. Simple as that.
And I want to like it.
Boy am I vague or what!

Show me your favorite room in a home {either your home, or any home, i.e. kitchen}.
Oh I could go on and on and on with this. (Thanks Pinterest!)
See any of them below.

If you could have any room redone, tell me which one would it be and what would you like done?
Kitchen! Especially because I am learning so far on this house hunt that the kitchens are my price range.

Tell me where your favorite stores are to shop for home decor.
Haven't really shopped for much home decor yet so I will get back to you on that...

Show me your dream home {it can be your home, if you already have your dream home}
Oh well...allow me.
It has to have great curb appeal and a fantastic back yard

I live in the southwest so I should find stuff I like in that style...
It will have a great master bedroom, bathroom, and closet!

I also need a kitchen filled with high end appliances and beauty.

And a magnificent Dining room to continue entertaining.

All opening up to fantastic living room
(that I didn't find a picture of...sorry!)
And don't forget the laundry room and office!

10 Day Challenge Link Up

August 15, 2012

I have a secret...

First off, let me say a BIG thank you to everyone who linked up for 10 secrets. We still have it open if you would like to link up and I am already excited for next weeks 9 loves!

Yesterday was a tiring but exciting day for me. I had the link up excitement (yay!), a job interview (fingers crossed), and my first time house hunting (eh). just for the record...I do not recommend house hunting on an empty stomach. I had no energy and felt kinda cranky. I also recommend winning the lottery.

That being said I learned a lot and found out my money will not travel as far as it wanted to (and that I need a job).

So yeah life update done. So...
Remember that secret I said I had?
Well here it is: I am an angel.
Not a Victoria's Secret one...bummer.
But a blog angel!

This means I have been secretly helping and encouraging a fellow blogger without her knowing that I am.

My blogger really didn't request much, so I am doing what she requested. I think I will actually be able to help her more when we are revealed so I can tell her what I honestly think. Because really...I am not the girl to shy away of saying what she thinks...

I hope that I am doing a good job. I know my person is a blog angel as well, so I wonder if she knows that I am hers. By the way...I have no clue who mine is!!

I am thankful that I really like her blog. One of my fears was getting a blogger that I didn't feel like I meshed with. I think once the reveal happens (stay tuned at the end of the month!) it will bring us together even more.

I am enjoying this experience and I can't wait for the reveal.

We have a lot in common and a lot of differences which makes it all the more fun to learn from this experience. <3

10 Day You Challenge: 10 Secrets

So excited for this link up with my girl Tiffany at Austin Family Diary

10 secrets! This will be a hard one! Let's see what we have...

one A lot of people say that if they could do it all over again, they wouldn't change a thing. They have no regrets because their mistakes made them who they are today. I guess that's true, but I would absolutely change some things if I could go back! I definitely have regrets!

two I tend to dwell on dwindling or lost friendships...they just drive me crazy. I always think I did something wrong. I try to realize that people change and move on and stuff but I just miss people.

three As a swimmer in high school, there were plenty of times I forgot my underwear. I would only find out after morning practice when I was changing to go to school...

Look at Micheal lane 8

four I used to cry a lot when I was younger. I was very dramatic. Now when I am emotional I shut down and don't cry.

five I never wear blush. I have rosacea.

six I am so indecisive I practically need people to make decisions for me. My top two decision makers are Kevin and my mom. It is pretty annoying.

seven I take very short showers. I think I got this from swimming all my life. Showering was the last thing I felt like fit into my busy schedule. I do promise I get clean despite my 2 minute shower!

eight My fingers swell like 72 times their normal size when I am warm {okay slight exaggeration}. So my rings are either really loose or really tight.

nine As an adult I can still count on my own two hands how many times I have warn a two piece bathing suit. Why do you ask? I am super disproportional. I wear an XS bottom and an XL top. With a short torso...looks awful.

me on my honeymoon...I can't believe I posted a pic of me in a two piece.
I must be crazy...

ten I keep secrets really well...and will announce another secret later on this week.
Thank you to everyone linking up this week. Next Tuesday we move on to nine loves!
Hope to see you guys then!

Weekend Update

Kevin and I had a really enjoyable weekend! It was a long one because he had Friday off work. Woo hoo!

It was also a super hot one. All weekend long.

This was the warmest that I dared to go outside. This was not the warmest it was.

First we started Thursday night with some bowling with friends. It was actually pretty fun and I managed not to embarrass myself to much...unless you count the fact that I hit my leg mid swing during bowling (I have the bruise to prove it). Or if you could the fact that the screen told me...and only me...that "we clean the gutters daily, but thanks anyway." Yeah. Like I said...I didn't embarrass myself that much!

I am sure the pins remained upright after I threw this ball...

Our awesome bowling group!

Friday we decided to take the big step...we met with a Realtor! Our lease is up in December, so we thought we might start looking. I am really excited, although I can tell I might not be the best at this process. There is already a house I loved from the photos and it is already being sold. Poor Kevin is going to have his hands full going through this process with me. At least I know what is popular...

I was also made some incredibly yummy homemade oreos. You can drool over the photos and get the recipe here.

Saturday was pretty chill. We watched House Hunters (now I can actually get Kevin semi interested in the show), did some research, and went to a pool party with some friends.

Sunday included the best breakfast ever. Kevin and I made homemade waffles with homemade strawberry topping. I also gained 1243804 pounds, so a trip to the gym was in order for that day, but that didn't happen. {strawberries are healthy, yeah?} Instead, we cooled down at the pool on another super hot day.

We also on a whim decided to watch The Lion King. Best movie ever, best idea ever. LOVE. I could do a whole post on how much I love The Lion King, but I will spare you. Just let it be known, that we, the children of the early 90's, had the best children's movies EVER.

Hope everyone else had an amazing weekend. Don't forget to come back tomorrow and link up to the 10 Day Challenge! I can't wait to read everyone's secrets!! :-)

Easy Enchilada Casserole

So far I have not found a good Mexican restaurant here in Tucson, but thankfully it is easy to make Enchiladas, so Kevin and I are not in withdrawals...yet.

Sometimes when I need something super easy and quick, I make my East Enchilada Casserole.

Very cheesy, very rich.

1 can of Las Palmas Green Sauce (they aren't paying me to say this, but if they want to I will take it!)
1 can of cream of chicken soup
Lots of shredded cheddar cheese
1-2 chicken breasts {I use raw/frozen}
4 Tortillas

Take 9-13 glass pan and pour a little of the green sauce to line the pan. Put two tortillas over that, then, spread can of cream of chicken soup on the tortillas.
Chop up the chicken breasts and sprinkle them on the cream of chicken soup.

Sprinkle shredded cheese over the chicken {or heavily layer it if you are a cheese-o-holic like me.} Then, pour a majority of what is left of the sauce and cover with two tortillas. Pour the remaining green sauce on top and sprinkle with cheese.

Then cover pan with foil and place in oven for 40 minutes at 400 degrees. If you want less saucy enchiladas, then take the foil off at 30 minutes.

Other randoms
Yesterday I thought all day that it was Wednesday. I didn't find out it was Tuesday until 4:30pm...
I was awarded the versatile blogger award by Sapir. Thanks girl! I love reading your blog!
I am hoping to better my blog design soon.
I am excited about the 10 Day Challenge Link up! I hope everyone participates and has tons of fun! {I am already having fun planning my first post!} Remember we start Tuesday!!
I need AA batteries.
I can't wait for football season to start!
Arizona heat--you can stop now. 111 for the rest of the week in addition to this 25-30% humidity. No fun.

That is all for me! Hoping everyone is having a great week!!

August 3, 2012

So some of you may not know that I was a competitive swimmer in high school. I decided last minute to defer my college swim scholarships to stay local and major in nursing. {both wouldn't have worked} Every time I see the Olympics, I miss swimming. I still need to find a decent pool here so that I can try and get back into swimming {and order some new suits}

I still remember my last race. It was a 400 freestyle relay and the State Championships. I went first on the relay {my start was really good, so I went first in free relays} and went a 58.9 something.

This was short course and anyone who is a swimmer, yeah it is not the fastest time, but I was not a good 100 freestyler and that was a personal best time for me.

So with that knowledge I started writing a post about Olympic swimmers and I realized there was just too many exciting things to write about. So I will sum up my opinions about them very quickly here:

Men's Team
You guys have hard rock abs!

Women's Team
You are all beautiful, fast, and seem down to earth--LOVE it!!

But I do want to cover one thing about the Olympics overall...

Yes I am well aware that I am not the most fashionable person and really shouldn't be handing out opinions, but even I know...the gray looks AWFUL!

Why the heck are they wearing these gray jackets and black pants?!?! They don't need to be wearing something vomiting red, white, and blue, but it would be nice to better visually identify the athletes country! REPRESENT!!

All other countries have more vibrant uniforms that I can immediately identify with their country. All we have is a team USA patch...

AND gets worse.
There is a different design for outdoor events for our Olympians.

If there is one color that says "America" it's burnt orange? I guess the University of Texas fans would say so, but EHHH...

What do you guys think?

Running Free

A while ago I mentioned what I want to accomplish a lot of running this summer.
I am really excited to be keeping up with my training and reaching my goals.

I am not good. After about ten minutes on the treadmill I am dying to walk. But a little running is better than no running right?

I am going to start tracking my miles. But what is actually nice about running?
The feeling of actually not wanting junk food after running.
The feeling of not being lazy.
The feeling of freedom.

It is just taking that first step that is hard...

I never look like that though...
Another nice thing. You can eat!

So therefore, go run!
Oh and the beautiful Jess {at} Love on the Loop nominated me for another award!! {so jealous of her pretty new car and awesome blog design!}
So I need to pass along the award.
Follow the person who nominated me {haha have been!}
Link back to the person who awarded you.

Pass along to a couple of new bloggers.

I am going to only pass this award to one blogger to keep it short and sweet.

Not only is she pretty, but her blog is beautiful and she is going through nursing school!
Check her out!
