Blog Lessons

Today I am doing my first guest post ever at Jordy Liz Blogs. I feel like this is a big step as a new blogger. The post is about change and I hope you all enjoy it!

When I started this blog, not very long ago at all, my goal was to chronicle a new chapter of my life. Married, moving to a new city, graduated....life. I had always been a silent blog reader and decided to transition myself into a blogger as well. That being said, I would like to write this little post about what I have learned.

Followers: I see people kidding themselves when they say that they aren't excited to get more followers. I check my count daily and am super excited when it goes up!

So let me say this to my followers:
Thank you. I am excited you like me.
And...

If I am following you, I read every single on of your posts. No exaggeration. What is the point of following someone if you do not read them. I am not going to follow your blog just for the sake of it. (Which is why I dislike people that follow people just to say follow me back...I love my numbers, but not that much!)

That being said I love commenting. I always want to comment back but it becomes a bit of a hassle for me to do so when you are a no-reply blogger. If you have ever commented on my blog and not gotten a response--consider yourself a no-reply blogger. If you are worried about having your real email address out there then make one just for your blog. (I have mine out there...I may change it, but not for the privacy, more for the ease of keeping it all away from my 235438 other emails. Many of us have personal emails attached to our blogs.

Here is how to correct that:
dashboard > edit profile > privacy > check the box that says "show my email address" > go to the identity section and enter the email address you want shown > click save profile

Also the word verification. I was super happy when Hilary told me that I was a word verification blogger (I think it automatically does that) Seriously though, I know they are so robots don't post on your blog, but I am not a robot and can have trouble getting them. I promise I have not had a robot comment since I have turned it off. So...

To turn word verification off: settings > posts and comments > show word verification > "NO"

I am not of this whole advertising with a blog the same "size" as yours thing. If you have 1 follower and want to advertise or guest post or whatever with a blog that has say 300 people, why should that blog with 300 people say no? We all started out with one follower. Help a blog out. I soon hope to make my own button and start entering that world, so let me know if you would like to swap, post, me to post, whatever! :-)

Tell me, are you a no reply blogger? Or do you even know? Leave a comment, and we can figure it out! It's so much more fun when we can chat back and forth!

  1. i've never found someone who was a no reply blogger on purpose - the worst is when they ask you a meaningful question, don't have a blog, and are no reply. it makes me sad.

  2. I love posts like this :) The word verification thing annoys me. One time I went thru like 5 different pictures on a post trying to get it correct. I was about ready to just say forget the comment. I have no idea if I'm a no reply blogger. When I get a comment I just hit reply (on my comment page) so the comment shows up under my post or I comment on one of their posts. Is it something different? Let me know :)

I finally made myself a button and am learning the in's and out's of blogging. I would love to guest post, swap buttons, whatever! I'm all about getting out there.

    Have a good day girl!

  3. I have never set the no-reply on purpose, it was always automatic I thought but I think I have my fixed. At least I hope I do. I need to work on a contact box, do you know how to do that?

  4. Allie my dear! You are a no reply blogger! Commenting under the post is different then commenting back through your email (which is what I and most other bloggers prefer)

Try going through the steps to make yourself not a no reply blogger and we can see if you like that better! :-)

  5. GREAT TIPS! I hate seeing no-reply commentaters :) And I go crazy with those CAPTCHAs...drives me nutso because I never get them right! Thanks for the shoutout girl!

  6. Yay! Congrats on your first guest post! I'm so with you...change is good but sometimes it just plain sucks. It'll get better, though, your job is out there! I finally got around to creating a button so if you make one, I'd love to swap with you!

  7. I used to be and my good ol blight friend helped me out. I had NO idea til she told me! Sure is nice to have nice bloggers out there.

  8. I think you have some really great tips in this post! Those CAPTCHA things always drive me nuts, so I disabled it off of my commenting area immediately.

I am definitely like you; I read every post on every blog I follow. What's the point in following if you're not going to read it?

  9. Love this post! I wrote something similar not long ago!

  11. Hi beautiful! Thanks for this post! I absolutely agree with you on the following and commenting. I read every single blog I follow, and leave comments when I can..what's the point otherwise? That's how I've gotten to know some great people!:)
And until I read this post, im pretty sure I was a no reply blogger without even knowing it! I think I fixed it (can you tell me?)...thanks for writing about it!
I always wondered about how to improve replies to comments on my blog. If the "reply" button isn't underneath someone's name, does that make them a no-reply?
This is totally new to me! Haha.

    Thanks again for the post!

  12. I try to reply back to every comment I receive. It's absolutely annoying when I go to comment on one of my favorite blogs and receive no reply, but see them commenting on a blog we both follow. I sometimes will check to see if maybe I didn't get the notification that they replied back, just to make sure, haha.
btw, i love your layout! Did you design it yourself or have someone do it for you. I've been looking for just a simple layout & can't seem to find one.. plus i'm an html failure!

  13. I definitely am so glad to not be a no-reply blogger, I have made so many new bloggy friends from them being able to reply back to my comments. I also can't stand word verification, I have a heck of a time figuring them out sometimes. Ugh.
    I love this post :D

  14. Ack! I was a word-verification blogger... I hate those things! Thanks for the information! You should do an email just for your blog, I have one for my blog/etsy store it makes it so much easier to sort through things.

    1. But right now as you leave this comment, you are a no reply blogger. I am not able to email you back to your blog email...
And yeah I am going to make an email just for my blog so that everything blog stays separate and organized from my personal junk haha.

  15. I get so excited when I get new followers that I tell Hubs...every single time. It's bad (good?). And I get so bummed when I see a word verification because sometimes I really want to comment, but I have to go through 5 or 6 photos to find one I can read.

I too, read all of the posts of bloggers I follow. I may or may not be starting to become addicted to my blogs...

    1. Kim you are a no reply blogger! You always have awesome comments! Let me reply to you via email! haha! I get excited about followers too. You are not alone! And I was addicted to blogs a long time ago. I would start a support group here on my blog, but I think that defeats the purpose... ;-)

  16. I am less than a month into blogging world and I am excited to get new followers. It is SO very awesome that you are such an awesome person Lauren to actually follow back and read blogs. I appreciate it everytime you stop by mine. Its common courtesy to follow back and then read right. I hope your having a wondeful day. Love this post. Congrats on your first guest post @ Jordy Liz Blogs. Love the background; it reminds me of a bag my sister bought at Abercromie.

    1. Amy! You are a no-reply blogger! I have accidentally written you comments back via email and sent them and then they just stay in cyber-space no where.

  18. I loved your guest post, Lauren. Congrats on your 1st one!!!! Who are we kidding if we say we aren't excited for new followers? Puhleaze...it's super duper fantastic! I'm going to be quite forward and honest with following blogs. When I first started expanding my blog I followed certain blogs because I thought I "had" to with certain link-ups. Now, I don't, and quite frankly I am working on unfollowing some. I guess I was lost in the beginning and unsure how it worked. Now I have some of it figured out. Like you, I want to be able to respond, comment, etc on the blogs who have my utmost attention..the blogs I can't wait to read everyday (one of which is yours :)). I definitely want to swap buttons when you get one! Gotta rock that Lauren on my blog!

  21. Bah--thank you for posting this! Those no-reply bloggers upset me so much because I totally want to reply to people. So frustrating :( And the word verification drives me insane! Congrats on your guest post :)

  22. I read everyone I follow as well. I don't comment every time but I definitely read every post!

  23. Great advice! I am always so disappointed when I go to respond to a comment and there is a no reply email! It always makes me feel bad for not responding to their questions. So hopefully people will read your post and change that! Haha

  24. Okay now once reading this I can say that I get psyched when I get new followers on my blog. I did just change up the name and as far as no reply I am not sure but we can find out.

  25. I love new followers and I love finding new blogs. I like to comment too. I would love it if you would button swap with me in September. I think we share a blogging community ethos and I love the stripes in your design. I am up for a blog swap sometime too, although September is already extremely rammed.

  26. Of course we love getting new followers, but even more we love it when people actually read our blog. I like to think of myself as a generally nice person ;P ....but man, I do NOT like comments that say "Great post! Follow me and I'll follow you!" Oh my goodness, does anyone really think that that is good advertising for themselves?

  27. Hey nice post! I think I did it right.. Lol.. I am not very computer illiterate..Lol.. Thanks for the advice! like I said hopefully I did it right.. hahah!!

    1. Erin, doll! You are still a no reply blogger!! So I cannot reply via email. In addition, you aren't linking up to the link, so other people cannot read your awesome answers to the link up! Please fix :-)

    2. I couldn't find the comment box when I clicked on "comments" so I clicked on "reply" instead. Sorry!

Anyway, I thought I was the only one who hated the "word verification" thing! Hahaha! But I don't know if I have that on my blog. :)

      I truly enjoyed this post!
