Weekend Update

This weekend was a fun weekend!
Kevin's family came over for the weekend and took us to the American Idol concert!

ugh bad pic//sorry

Other then that we hung out and watched the Olympics and ate lots of food.
BTW I have called all the swimming results with 100% accuracy.
Team USA should have made me a coach. I could have saved them some heartbreak. cough cough...Men's 400 Free Relay...

Kevin and I finished our weekend with some tennis. When we moved on from just volleying back and forth and tried to play a game I didn't do so hot.

I have to say that saying "love, 30" or "love, 40" is much better sounding then saying your score of zero over and over. Whoever made that up was definitely keeping in mind the self esteem of those not so good at tennis.

My sisters are both amazing tennis players. They should try and help me improve {especially my forehand} before deeming me a lost cause.

Today I plan to catch up on everyone's blogs and just hang out today.

What are you doing today?!

Random Thoughts

As I sit here on this fine Wednesday, I thought I would share some of my random thoughts.

Britany Simon. I wish you would have won Design Star.
I am going to try baking some cupcakes today.

Hopefully this doesn't happen:

Being a new nurse is proving to be really interesting. UGH.

I am also going to try and exercise today. I tweaked my knee somehow so hopefully it is good enough to run on today.

I have been loving the rain Tucson has been getting.
It is fun to watch the kids playing outside jumping up and down in the street.
They are so happy to see the heavens open up and pour down on them.

I found this fun little thing online and am going to do it.
Would anyone be interested in linking up with me for it?
This weekend my in-laws are coming for the weekend!

What I Love About Marriage

So this weekend Kevin and I spent a low-key weekend alone. It was so nice!

First we went to our first Tucson Padres game with some of his co-workers. We lost, but it was a good game!

Other than that we:
Cleaned some of the house
Finished our thank you notes
and the best part was our Saturday date night.

Our first ever date was seeing Batman Begins and going to Coldstone. We replicated that by going to see The Dark Knight Rises and going to Coldstone.

With that, here I are the things I love so far about being married:

1. Starting and ending the days together. I absolutely love these times together - getting to talk about the day that we're going to have, and the day that we just had. Confiding in one another, sharing emotions and struggles, talking and dreaming about the plans of the future. It is special.

2. Being alone. We now have a place to just hang out together, enjoying each other's company, and it's just a feeling of FINALLY!

3. Getting ready. Learning how to share a closet and a bathroom with Kevin was not as hard as I thought it would be! I need to add on a bit of time to the amount I need to get ready, because we always end up getting distracted or playing around instead of doing whatever we need to be doing. {get your mind out of the gutter} It's hard to put on make up when I am laughing at his crazy antics. Plus it is always super cute that Kevin will lie on the bed playing games on his phone while I am getting ready and then realize I am almost ready and have to last minute scramble to get himself ready. tee hee.

4. Meals together. As I have explained in previous posts, I am loving learning to cook for us, and it is so fun to sit down and share meals together. I feel so relaxed and enjoy it so much, even when we're just eating and not saying anything. I love being his assistant on weekends when we make breakfast together. These are some of my favorite times of the day.

5. Growing closer. It's amazing how close we've become since the wedding! I never knew it was possible. When we're with a group of people, we can make eye contact and know exactly what each other is thinking about whatever is going on at that moment. And then later we discuss it. Ahhh it's so much fun.

These are just 5 things out of the endless amount of blessings that have already come out of {almost} two months of marriage. I never want to take these things for granted, even when we've been married for 30 years. I want to make lists like this forever!

Cool / Not Cool / Undecided

Cool
These YouTube Videos!
Go John Orozco! I will be cheering you on!

This Call me Maybe Cover
It is pretty awesome. Although despite the fact that I am not a Miami fan, I think this one is still my favorite:

Olympic Games coming up!

Not Cool
The fact that I have a big zit on my face right now.
Dear face, you are no longer a teenager. Get that zit gone!
The terrible shooting in Aurora, CO. My prayers go out...

Undecided
Whether I should go to the grocery store so that we have something to eat for dinner tonight.
How to document my wedding here on the blog.
Plans this weekend.
My pillow. Sometimes it is okay, sometimes it is not.
Ugh.

Have a great weekend everyone!!

The judges make me wanna puke. But I like David!
Some of the designs also make me want to puke, but this is the best year so far that I have seen.

Things You Will Need to Know to be my Bloggy BFF

Today I am linking up with everyone's favorite blogger, {I mean really, who isn't following her?!?} Becky at From Mrs. to Mama.

I dream of her and many other bloggers I follow as my BFF's {blogger friends forever! duh!}

So here is what you need to know about me to be my BFF!

1. How long have you been blogging? And what got you started on blogging?
I just started blogging this June. I started blogging because I have always been an avid reader of blogs and when I got married, by husband noticed and suggested that I join in. I did and I am happy I did because it is a neat way to keep a journal of a new and exciting time in my life.

2. Did you go to college? If so where, and what did you study?
I went to New Mexico State University. It was in my hometown so I remained close to family. It was also cheap and I came out with no student debt. Woo Hoo! I studied nursing and am currently job hunting here in Tucson.
Me and my friend Andrea

3. Where have you traveled?
Well I went to the Bahamas for my honeymoon. Other then that I have only been to other states. I have also been to Niagara Falls a couple of times.

4. If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you would buy?
My dream home. I would be fine if I had to return the rest of the money, I just want my dream home.

5. What are your 3 biggest pet peeves?
Chewing with your mouth open/taking too big of bites, people that do not sneeze/cough into their elbow, and bad manners.

6. What is your favorite movie?
Skip. This one is too hard!

7. What is your drink of choice; wine, beer, or liquor. Or Water, Soda, Tea?
Non-alcoholic would be water. All I drink is water. I have never had a carbonated beverage. {Cue the shock} This means I have never even tried a coke, beer, or sparkling anything.

For an alcoholic drink I would now have to say wine. {Never thought I would acquire that taste}

8. What is something you enjoy to do when you have me time?
Blog, Pinterest, Read, Watch TV, or Exercise.

9. If you could have a $10,000 shopping spree to one store, which store would it be?
Marshalls. Anyone who knows me knows I love that store for it's great deals! I could get so much there for $10,000!

10. Share with us an embarrassing moment of your past? Or present.
I really can't think of one right now.

11. What day would you love to relive again?
My Wedding Day. It went by so quickly and it was so wonderful...let's do it again!

12. If your life was turned into a movie... what actor would play you?
You know they funny thing was when I was little I would pretend I was in a TV show and I cast celebrities as my family, but I never cast me. So I don't know who would play me...

13. What are the jobs you had in high school/college/the early years?
I swam competitively in high school so that was my full time job. After I graduated high school here was my list of jobs: Administrative Assistant at a Telecommunications Company then to a CSRM {a live in mentor in the dorms to honors college students--teach them how to have fun, advise them, etc...}, then a lifeguard, swim instructor, and Veterinary Assistant {all of those jobs were held at the same time}, and student nursing.

14. Show us a picture from high school or college.
I will embarrass myself with a high school one.
Senior Prom...boy do we look young...and I look like I am on drugs.

15. If you could travel anywhere in the world, all expenses paid, where would you go?
Australia. It has been a dream of mine since the 8th grade. We did a project in Technology where we had to use the internet {back when the had to teach you that in school} to plan a trip. We had to take our whole class and we had two million dollars. {psh sweet!}

16. Show us the most current picture of you or you and your family.
Honeymoon!

17. Where do you see your life 5 years from now?
(more art here)
A very happy and healthy family. May or may not thinking about kids. Enjoying life...

Thanks for reading bloggy BFFs!

Liebster Award

I went back to New Mexico for a really quick weekend trip and had a blast! {I even got some of my Summer-to-do list things done. Previous post found here. I was so pleasantly surprised to find out when I turned on my computer that I was nominated for the Liebster Award by the beautiful Caitlin {at} A Day in the Life

The award is given to upcoming bloggers with less than 200 followers. Liebster is German and means sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcome!

So here is how it works:

1. Each person must post 11 things about themselves.

2. Answer the questions the tagger set for you and create 11 questions for the bloggers you've tagged.

3. Choose up to 11 bloggers and link them in your post.

4. Go to their page and tell them.

5. No tag backs.

Here are my 11 things:

1. I don't like my arms

2. I have never had a carbonated beverage. Never a soda, beer, or sip of champagne.

3. I was a competitive swimming in high school.

4. I love pro football and can't wait for the season to start!

5. I do wish I was rich.

6. I am frugal.

7. I pretend to be more creative than I really am.

8. I love organizing, party planning, and making lists.

9. I have never dyed my hair.

10. I actually was one of the first 1000 people to join Pinterest.

11. My OCD is wondering why 11 things, 11 questions, and 11 people and not 10.

Here are my questions:

1. What do you do to relax?
Exercise, blog, eat chocolate, read, or watch tv.

2. What are some of your hobbies?
I guess that would be reading, blogging, pro football {like watching it and fantasy football and all that jazz}, and skiing.

3. If you were stranded on a desert island and could only take 3 things with you, what would you take?
Sunglasses, my computer {if I can get wifi there}, and Kevin. Runners up: Sunscreen and chocolate.

4. What is your greatest accomplishment thus far?
Getting married to Kevin.

5. What was your favorite subject in school and why?
In high school it was Government/Econ because I had the best teacher I have ever had.
In college my favorite subject was nursing {yes I know that is not a subject, but most of those classes were fun}

6. How would you describe your style?
You know those pictures like this:

That is how my style is. I think it looks classic, colorful, and conservative {but still sexy}. But really it is {sadly} probably closer to whatever is clean and in my closet. I need more clothes--I never have anything to wear.

7. If you could have any special talent {that you don't already have}, what would it be?
The ability to eat anything without getting fat. {isn't that every girls dream?}

8. If you won the lottery, what would you spend the money on?
My dream home! And everything in it...

9. Name three people who have influenced you the most and why.
First off Kevin has influenced me in so many ways. He is always my biggest supporter.

My mom and dad have also been very influential and are super amazing parents. My mom stayed at home and worked hard to raise us. My dad has worked hard to support us and had to put up with all girls in the house. Enough said.

10. What got you started in blogging?
I have been a long time reader of blogs. I still am a better reader of blogs than a writer. {seriously. everyone i follow. yes I read all of your posts.} Then I got married and decided to start my own...remember and document my new life. It is all so new, and I still have so much to learn.

11. What is your favorite holiday and why?
I would say Christmas. I love the lights, the presents, the cheer, the music, the smell of the yummy cookies, the weather, everything.

So thanks for that Caitlin! Here are my choices. A lot of you that I would mention are way too popular!

Hilary {at} Diaries of Do'ers

Lisa {at} Happy Joyful Day

Lindsey {at} Creatively Classy

Kelsey {at} Life in Love

Here are my questions for you ladies:

1. Where are you from, where do you live currently, and how many places have you lived?

2. If you could meet any three people {dead or alive} who would they be and why?

3. If you had to choose your last meal, what would it be?

4. What is your idea of a perfect date night?

5. What did you do most when you were a child to get into trouble?

6. What would you do if you were given 1 million dollars?

7. What are your hobbies?

8. If you could hire one helper {like a maid, personal trainer, cook, etc..} who would you hire?

9. What is your favorite holiday?

10. Would you consider yourself closer to messy or to organized?

Growing Your Personal Style

Lord knows I am no fashion maven.
But sometimes a girl can dream that she could actually put together and pull off outfits.
aplaceforart:

‘birthday girl’

I don't know if anyone would use the words fashionable or stylish to describe me. And that is okay, but I do want to be the best me I can be and I think that does include evaluating my wardrobe. I love this quote:

"I do struggle because I'm attracted to beautiful things, yet at the same time I am actually very aware, in some sense, their lack of value and that the most important things in life are your connections to other people"
Tom Ford
goin through the closet @ INSLEE
more art here

I would also love to be able to have this artist commission a picture of me. {notice my obsession of her} But my first thought is that none of the above pictures could ever be me,

I think people that are fashionable/stylish are confident in who they are inside and out. I may not enjoy a ton of shopping or am interested in trends/being knowledgeable about fashion, but I can admit that a well put together outfit has me feeling good.

I started taking notes of outfits that I have had that heck yeah, I feel good feelings in. When I noted what outfits they were, I noticed trends in what I was wearing and it better helped my shop for me and my body.

Now I finally feel like I have a closet that is coming together.

What are some tips you have for people who want to look and feel their best?

Newlywed Life: Cooking

One of the most talked about aspects of becoming a wife is cooking for the husband. Don't people know that I like to eat more than Kevin?! haha!

But seriously, yes, I am excited to cook for Kevin. What most people don't know is that I probably only cooked for him a handful of times before we were married. So, no, he wasn't marrying me for my cooking skills! {it was the cleaning skills he was marrying me for} Thankfully, he would love me even if I didn't do those things. :) But I will, and I am, doing those things. And, yes, I am enjoying it, because it's not just for me.

I have never learned to cook. Probably because I haven't really tried that much. Sure, I've seen my parents, and helped them out, but that's different. They guided and directed everything. I do love to bake delicious items such as cookies and cupcakes. But I guess we can't always eat cookies and cupcakes... {What a shame} During the past few years I've relied on highly nutritious foods such as quesadillas and sandwiches. As much as Kevin enjoys a good quesadilla, I am not planning on making that one of our staple meals. Therefore, I am now learning to cook for us, and I know it will be a trial and error process! I have already had to learn that you need side dishes to go with your main dishes. {shocking right? Thankfully Kevin is not picky..}

Here is what we have had the past two nights. {Recipes below} When you are cooking for two and don't want constant leftovers, you have to adapt. I even made my own recipe last night!

Brown Sugar Meatloaf
Adapted from All Recipes

Ingredients:
1/2 pounds lean ground beef
1/2 cup of milk
1 egg
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
Ketchup to taste
Brown Sugar to taste
1/4 cup finely crushed crackers (optional)
Onion to taste (optional)

Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees F. Lightly grease a 5x9 loaf pan.

2. Set aside brown sugar and ketchup. Mix all remaining ingredients in a mixing bowl. Shape into a loaf and place in loaf pan.

3. Sprinkle brown sugar over loaf to cover. {No measurements, cooking is an art right?!}

4. Drizzle ketchup over that and bake in the oven for 1 hour or until juices are clear. {It only took my loaf 45 minutes}

Lauren's Crock Pot Hawaiian Chicken

Ingredients:
2-3 thawed chicken breasts
1 can of pineapple
BBQ Sauce {to taste}

Instructions:
1. Chop chicken breasts into small cubes {or shred} I think next time I will try shredding the chicken.

2. Place chicken in the crock pot and cover with pineapple {drain most of the juice, but not all so that it absorbs into the chicken}

3. Cover in BBQ sauce

4. You can let it go on low for a couple of hours, or speed up the chicken by putting it on high for 1 hour.

Great to serve over rice and you can add extra BBQ sauce if you wish when you are eating it.
Yeah, side note...I don't know how anyone takes all these amazing photos of their food...

Weekend Update

I finally had a long weekend in Tucson and it turned out to be a good one! Here is a little recap!

Friday:
We just hung out. Low key day. AND it RAINED! {Ya I am a girl who LOVES me some rain!}

Saturday:
Kevin took me to dinner for my birthday {cause I was in Ohio when that happened} and it was super nice. I will def go back to Fleming's Steakhouse!

Then we went and saw a movie under the stars in our community. The movie was We Bought a Zoo. They marketed the movie for kids, but I don't think it was a kids movie. There was one point where the dad is telling his son that they need to be strong because the daughter still believes in the Easter Bunny. A little girl behind me then proceeded to look at her mom with a face full of confusion. Not good...

Also not good. I got stung by ants. I had a bad reaction...itchy all over, tingly all over, and I still have itchy, painful, warm, big bites all over me.

My entomologist father-in-law says fire ants. Yippie...

Sunday:
Kevin made me muffins from scratch!

Lazy day. I applied for more jobs {fingers crossed}
Then had a game night with some of Kevin's co-workers

Hope everyone's weekend was good!

Collar Stays

Funny story.

The other day I was at home kinda picking up around the house and on the bedroom dresser were these two little American Eagle cardboard things. I thought they were those strips to smell perfume/cologne. In the back of my mind I was kinda wondering--what the heck?! Kevin {the husband} won't even go to the mall without me.

So I ask Kevin what they are joking about cologne and he smiles.
Then I go to throw them away.

Then I hear: "What are you doing?!?!?"

{silence}

Uhhh do you need these?

Turns out they are collar stays.
Psh. Heck if I knew.
Guess I need to learn to live with a man!

Also reading this article as my job search continues...

Have a great weekend!

Glitter in the Sky--My 4th of July!

My first fourth of July in Tucson was a pretty good one!!
First Kevin made me some yummy waffles.

Then we went and bought some fresh fruit for me to make fruit pizza.
Still wasn't as good as my mom's.

But we enjoyed it with Lisa and her husband.
{Lisa's instagram photos of our night}

Then we went and saw fireworks in Tubac at their golf resort.

black & white classic photos ^

Now my day after will be spent cleaning the house, writing thank you notes, and getting in a work out.

Gotta stay inside with all the heat.
Plus despite my best efforts I got a little red after my pool day with Lisa

Hope everyone has an amazing day!
Love, Lauren

Is It Normal?!

I posted my first link up last week--so fun that I am doing it again!

1.
Is it normal to live with your parents past the age of 24?
For a temporary circumstance, maybe, but other then that no. Get a job and  make something of yourself. Spread your wings and fly, etc..., etc....

2.
Is it normal to leave your house and/or car unlocked?
Depends on where you are for your car. Like at my parents house in the middle of no where, I leave it unlocked. In my garage, I leave it unlocked. As for my house, if someone is there, unless you live in a hard neighborhood, then sure keep it unlocked. If you leave, no matter where you live, yeah you are not normal if you keep it unlocked.

3.
Is it normal to prefer using your a men's razor instead of a women's?
Yep. I do.

4.
Is it normal to go back to bed right after showering for a quick nap?
um. I don't know? Never heard of that, but I don't nap anyway. I always feel like crap after a nap.

5.
Is it normal to eat chocolate chips straight from the bag?
Anyone who says this is not normal cannot be my friend.

6.
Is it normal to check behind the shower curtain or under the bed before you get in?
When you were five...

7.
Is it normal to talk to yourself?
Probably not, but I do.

8.
Is it normal to bite your nails?
Well it is not a healthy habit...under your nails can get pretty nasty germys, but I don't look at people who bite their nails and say...wow what a weirdo!
9.
Is it normal to go to bed without brushing your teeth?
no. No. and. NO!!!

10.
Is it normal to "baby talk" your pet?
Yes, sometimes, a pet is your baby. Plus dey are so cuuuuute! Yes they are! (in a baby voice)

Come back tomorrow for a really cool post {I know from me, totally not normal} BUT I promise you are going to want to read it! {and will kick yourself it the butt for not!}
