After you are Married...

There are so many things that happened after I got married that were better than I could even imagine. There were also things I imagined that would happen that just....didn't happen.

Like...

You don't become rich.
Another income? A tax break for filing jointly?! Awesome! But you also have a second person to think about. Plus now that you are married you start thinking about expensive things to come....house, pets, children...

You will not transform into Martha Stewart.
This one is kind of a bummer.  I thought that surely once I got married, I would magically be able to cook and clean so flawlessly.
False.
My house is still not decorated/even totally unpacked.
When I clean, you can’t even tell the next day.
I have ruined a lot of dinners.
But you know what? I'm learning.

You are still your own person.
I am still me.  I still want the same things I did before I walked down the aisle.  While we grow hugely as a couple, we still grow with our own dreams and compromise in order to support each other everyday.

The worst is when you get lazy.
I told myself I would NEVER let this happen. But it did. I got lazy with my weight.
I am currently trying to get back on track with this one because I think it stinks to have to worry about this so young. But no man wants to marry a women who is going to let herself go afterwards.
My body is my temple and not only him but I deserve to be healthy and happy with it.

I wish it was that easy...
and note no matter what, Kevin always tells me I am beautiful. He says it to me at least twice a day.

But overall...
I love being married.  I love eating dinner with my best friend every night. (unless I am working). I love laughing with him over Pizza Hut pizza (because I messed up the dinner that I tried making). I love every little thing about being married!

  1. There was so much you wrote about that I can relate too !! I have a two year old and I swear when I clean one side of the house the other side is being "destroyed" lol I got lazy too and just recently decided enough is enough !! I got myself some new makeup and started attending cardio barre classes and I am feeling great !! Good luck with your health journey you got this girl !!

  3. oh, but lauren... "I love laughing with him over Pizza Hut pizza (because I messed up the dinner that I tried making)." the point there is, you tried, and when it tanked, you had an alternative, and the two you still enjoyed dinner.

my sister-in-law? i could write a very nasty, VERY NASTY post on how she's wrecked her marriage. her idea of dinner, on that off chance when she could be bothered, was to throw some stuff in a crockpot and let it simmer. now, i'm not saying that's a bad thing. there are some very fine meals that can be made in crockpot. but... they never sat down together, just the two of them, at a table and laughed with each other about their day.

that last line? that's what matters.

  4. I love this. I thought I'd be Martha and have it all together but I certainly don't. I think I've finally gotten the cooking thing down, but our house is never clean -ha! I feel like it's always unorganized, and not decorated how we want... but that's life! :)

  5. Ha! Love it. I tend to think that a lot of things will come together miraculously at this or that point, but it's nice to have a reminder that they don't. :p Also, I'm totally with ya on the working out - I was so GOOD about it this summer! The past two months have been so crazy packed, though. Time to get back to running!

  7. So so so true! It's funny how you have this "idea" of what things will be like or which things will change once you get married ... and that "idea" I had was so wrong! Kind of wish the "Martha Stewart" one would've came true :) Being married is so great though - totally agree!
