Twenty Four Things...Gilmore Girls Lessons

The title of the blog post makes me think about that quote from Gilmore Girls when Rory turns 21.
"My mom and I had been planning for my twenty-first birthday... We were going to go to Atlantic City and sit at a blackjack table at eleven fifty-nine, and we'd be playing twenty-one when I turned twenty-one. We were going to drink martinis, and win money, and go buy twenty-one things, and there was this thing including twenty-one guys that would be totally inappropriate now that I'm with you."

Any Gilmore Girls fans in the house?!?

So here are my 24 things.
1. One. That's the amount of years you have left until your mom starts asking for grandkids.
2. It makes your stomach turn thinking about 25 next year.

3. Then you start thinking about 30.
4. Renting a car is nearly impossible. If you want to rent a car it costs about $300 more than a 25 year old would pay.
5. Work. Work. Work. you work all day and your income doesn't show it. Everyone making more money than you says "It'll pay off, keep working hard" ........ you nod your head and say "you're right, you're right" over and over again until you are blue in the face. You have been doing this since you graduated.
6. "Enjoy that metabolism while you can" is a thing of the past and now you know why people were telling you that when you were younger. The obvious growing muffin top freaks you out!
7. Oh and let's talk about those dimples on your cheeks that are magically appearing...or let's not.

8. Going on an interview and they ask "What are your hobbies?" .... um, work?
9. Wrinkles around your eyes, lips, and forehead become more noticeable. You start researching anti-wrinkle creams, figuring out which ones really work. Amazon leads you to the most expensive cream ever so you consider Botox instead.

10. College students look like 8th graders.
11. You consider it more and more a compliment to get carded.
12. You know about stocks and bonds and Roth IRAs and you weren't even a business major.
13. You have baby names picked out.
14. Your youngest sister point out things you do "because you are old".
15. Places you shop are becoming different. The days of going and buying a cute expensive top are replaced by thoughts of where that money could go...like maybe to the AC service I have been putting off...
16. You wonder where your stamina went? How were you so busy in high school and college and got everything done, but can't manage to get your laundry and grocery shopping done all in one day?!

17. You complain in a previous post about getting old.
18. All of these pro athletes are younger than you.

24. My last reason is simple.... you can't even think of 24 things that are bad, but that is happy, because despite all the unhappies, there just as many reasons that the year of 24 will be awesome!
This 24-year-old is looking forward to the next year... I have a feeling it'll be a good one ;-) I'll pay the bills, buy wrinkle cream, and love my handsome husband more than ever!

It's the Freaking Weekend Baby (And I'm About to Have me Some Fun)

Well kinda.
Today is my birthday and I have to work all day!
That is a bit of a bummer, but the rest of the weekend should make up for it...

But then tonight some of my girlfriends get in to celebrate a friend's bachelorette party all weekend long!
We will just have to try and do it and tolerate the record breaking heat we are supposed to have tomorrow.
Yikes!

I hope you guys have a great weekend!

Dan and Andrea's Wedding

As I mentioned a couple posts ago, one of my best friends got married! It was so great to see her happiness displayed at one of the most beautiful weddings I have had the pleasure of attending. I did not have a camera...sad day. Read about my camera situation {here}. But I did have my phone and was still able to capture some pretty amazing moments.

Congrats Andrea and Dan! Love you guys long time!

Andrea's mom made the cake(s) 11 tiers and 11 flavors!

The bride looked beautiful as always!

I dressed up.

The view from the reception was beautiful overlooking a golf course!

The next morning was brunch where she opened up her gifts!

Congrats to Andrea and Dan. I love you and your wedding!
Next wedding up Erica's! Yay!! I love weddings!

Anniversary Recap

Surely an anniversary trip recap taking place a month after means it was just SO awesome that the blog just wasn't ready for its recap, right? Right. Surely it wasn't because the blogger writing the recap is just lazy. No, certainly not. That's just plain flat silly...

Anyway, Kevin and I drove to San Antonio. We chose San Antonio because one of my very best girlfriends was having her last fling before the ring!

One of the nights of her weekend fling, I crashed the party!
We went to Dick's Bar (never again)

We went to my hotel bar...where we got free drinks all night!
Yeah there is pretty awesome story there. The bride's sister was underage and a lot of places wouldn't let her in even if she wasn't going to drink. So we went to my hotel's bar! I went up to the bar to get first round when a nice guy asked if he could buy me a drink. I said I was with a bachelorette party and he bought us all a round of shots. Then he became a pusher and left his tab open for us the rest of the night!
Double fisting it with the bride having fun behind me ;-)

Then Kevin and I spent a couple of days exploring San Antonio.
We saw all five missions:

Of course we had to take the classic picture in front of the Alamo.

We explored the riverwalk:

We ate amazing food:
Seriously best plate of food I have ever had in my life was in San Antonio.
Oh and Kevin took me to a super fancy restaurant on our anniversary

Best plate I have ever had was at a cool Modern Tex Mex place. SO yummy.

Oh and there were some pretty kick ass margs too!
We had our top layer:
Oh and Kevin and I were both surprised that it was super yummy!
Then we moved on to continue our vacation at a lakeside resort outside of Austin. On our way thanks to Emily's great suggestions, we stopped at Grist Mill for some amazing food!

Then when we made it to Austin we spent lots of time by the pool!
And the lake!
We did venture one night into Austin. We walked around and saw the capital building.
We also saw people "keeping Austin weird" in fine form. Yes there was a gentleman riding a bike in nothing but a g-string. #yougoglencoco
That is one big, beautiful building!
We also went to see the bats come out from under the bridge but they came out too late and it was to dark to see them. :-/
Then we were on our way back to New Mexico for my friends wedding. First we stopped by Carlsbad Caverns!

The only thing that looked scary in there was me.
The formations were all totally awesome!
Whew. Did you make it through this post?! I had so much fun.
Until next year Kevin! :-)
Oh and first anniversary is paper. Read all about my gift to Kevin here.

Tuesday Topics: Five Memory Filled Songs

Since I have been recapping my wedding, I will stay away from the obvious songs that bring back memories of my wedding. I went with a mix of happy and sad memories today.

Lights--Ellie Goulding

The night after this awful night I heard this song.
I also heard it after a lot of really hard nights in the ER.
I was scared to go out all alone sometimes in the dark of night away from the bright lights and ambulance lights with so much adrenaline running through my veins.

The Songs I Sang with my Mom

My mom knew how to blast songs in the car and we would just sing along! There were so many good ones that I remember! I could make a whole huge list!
American Pie, any Carole King, Without You (above), Rich Girl, ELO, pretty much any good 70's song!

Linkin Park's first album

I know our generation has become song obsessed in due to large part to the internet. People buy one song instead of a whole album. Linkin Park's first album had all the songs that got my pumped up to swim big races in the pool.

Songs with Kirk
My uncle and Godfather died way to early in life. I remember going and visiting him in Ohio and blasting the Dixie Chicks with the windows down! Such a happy memory.

I also remember when my cousin (his daughter) was little, he was worried about some of the music she was listening to. He asked me if I thought this song in particular was okay.

Dancing with Daddy
When I was little my dad and I would go to father daughter dances. Dad would put me on his shoes and we would sway to the music. I love dancing with my dad, which was one of the best parts about my wedding! One of the songs we would dance to when I was little was Neon Moon.

What songs speak to you and bring back the memories?

The Paper Gift

**Update: All the open whens are can be found here!**

Kevin and I had our first wedding anniversary at the end of May.
I plan to do a recap on that next week, but I wanted to share my paper gift to Kevin!

I wanted to do something special, out of the box. Something that said "hey I thought about this and didn't just buy you a piece of paper."
I wrote him twelve letters (one letter per month of our first year) on really nice stationary.

And yes two of the envelopes were brown because I ran out of blue.
Way to plan Lauren...

As a spin, paper is the traditional gift, but there is also a list of modern gifts. The modern gift for year one is clocks. I decided that the "open when" on each of them symbolizes a time and thereby being my spin off of the clock gift.

Up next, cotton and china! Wish me luck! :-)

Belated Blog Birthday Party

So guess what I missed celebrating?
My first blog birthday!

I can't believe I missed it! I didn't even write a post!
Bad Mom!

June 12th, 2013  was the date that marks one year for my favorite blog! My blog has been more than I could ever imagine. I know that this blog, my lovely followers/friends and the inspiration I have received from all of you has been the most amazing! People from the outside do not understand what this world has to offer, as I didn't before I joined, but now I don't ever want to give it up ;)

It is hard to believe that 191 blog posts ago that I wrote my very first post. Don't bother looking at that post. I barely had a grasp on sizing images (still only barely have a grasp) and barely a grasp on writing for that matter. Haha! Since then I have made many friends and am feeling the need to celebrate these past 373 days with some cake and wine!

When I started this blog, I truly didn't know what to expect. I knew that I had a lot to share (whether I should or not is beside the point haha), but didn't know if I would end up with anyone on the receiving end. When people began following, commenting and simply visiting- I was surprised. Honestly, not that I have low self esteem, but when you are putting yourself out there you never know what's going to come of it. I am very proud to say that through having the courage to put myself out there, I have made a small place for myself in at least a few hearts. I have met some wonderful bloggers that have been completely awesome! I also hope that one day, I have the ability to inspire a few new lovely bloggers.

I want to thank each and everyone one of you for visiting and inspiring me more than you will ever know. I will be happy if I have brought you a tenth of the joy that you have brought me! Here are the posts that brought you coming back to this blog for more, according to the stats:

(Really surprised that my top two posts for pageviews are food...haha!)

One more thing I would like to say. (Its my party and I'll talk if I want to...)
I started out as a silent blog reader. Never left comments, etc... If anyone is out there silently reading my blog (I know at least Andrea is there) and you are thinking of starting up a blog, DO IT. It opens up a whole new world and has impacted me beyond just reading. If you enjoy reading blogs and can write then know there will be some people enjoying reading your blog...

Now I could go into specifics...like how choosing a name for your blog is probably the hardest decision ever...at least it was for me and wow this has got to be the longest run on sentence ever...are all my sentences this out of wack?

I digress. I still don't know what I think of my blog name but that too is also beside the point.

What was I saying? Oh yeah. Start a blog! Because blogging has truly given me a sense of who I am and what I strive to be. I learned a lot about myself with this blog, and I think I have improved on some things along the way. Oh and the blog friends...there is something indescribable that I can't explain about the friends I've made along the way. They are just amazing, and I seriously could name so many of them who have touched my life and been there for me in hard situations. If that's not rewarding then I don't know what is. Especially some of the comments I have received over the year and conversations therein. They have brought a big smile to my face.

I can't wait to see what this next year brings!

Show Off

I want the inside scoop from you really amazing fashion bloggers. You have these amazing pictures of your wardrobe and I am scared to imagine how much is spent.

Honestly if I could have a bloggers closet, it would be Lauren's
We share the same name already, now we just need the closet!
#thatwouldbeamazing

I don't think I look like a fashion blogger and these beautiful women show off outfits on the daily! That is a lot of clothes! But I have blog and some clothes...specifically this shirt I really like!

Slanty picture on the hill in my front yard

Oh and I am loving long necklaces. Especially dainty ones like this.

I got the shirt at Marshall's (aka my second home), the earrings from F21, the necklace from Ann Taylor Outlet, my fave MK watch, some really old bracelets, Old Navy skinny jeans (old as you know what...I could use some new ones), shoes from Marshall's as well (peep toe will never go out of style!), and my purse is Makowsky (#fancy)

Do you have any pieces in your closet you like to show off?

Tuesday Topics: Six Favorite Products

Well hello Tuesday Topic Friends! It is that time again!
Remember every time you link up gives you an entry into a giveaway after the last topic! Of course there will be more topics after this, but we thought this would  be a fun way to say thank you for all of you who link up! I love reading all of your guy's posts!!

Oh and some minor blog news from me, if you see the email:
lifelovelauren7@gmail.com
That is me!
Yep! New blog email!

Moving on, moving from New Mexico to Arizona, I did not think that it would be that big of an adjustment. Both dry, hot climates right?

Well for one the temp difference may only be 5-10 degrees, but it makes all the difference...especially in the summertime now. (I am telling myself I will acclimate).

And secondly, I did not realize how much dryer it would be here.
Holy heck my skin is freaking out!

So with this week I realized I left this very open ended.
My favorite household products, beauty products, what products do you wanna know about?!

I chose these products  because they are ones that I like a specific brand on.
Usually I am not brand specific or product specific.
Like makeup? I don't have my specific brand of mascara, eye shadow, lipstick, foundation, etc...
Don't get me wrong, I love the top brands, but I don't need that specific brand on my specific product.
Except toilets. I only buy Kohler toilets.

Now that I have scared you with my weirdness about toilets, here are six of my favorite products!

one // My day time lotion // two // My night time lotion // three // My eye cream
four // My body lotion // five // My Sonicare // six // Listerine pocket strips
Bonus // Walgreen's Zinc Oxide Sunscreen

I hope you guys all had a great weekend! Mine consisted of baseball, working, grilling on our new grill, and hanging out with Kevin!

French Toast Roll Ups

I am a big breakfast person. I love breakfast and have never been one of those girls able to skip breakfast.
I have a standard breakfast. (unless I work that morning and then it is a breakfast burrito to go!)
2 eggs sunny side up, one piece of sausage, and a piece of toast.
This is eloquently called Dip Eggs.
My dad came up with the name.
I have had them since I was a kid.

But on weekends when I cook for Kevin he isn't as big a dip eggs person as I am.
So we have fun breakfasts!

I tried French Toast Rolls this weekend. I had seen various pictures on Pinterest and decided it shouldn't be that hard to try.

Boy was it worth it! These babies melt in your mouth.
Be careful though. They are like Pringles. Once you pop, you can't stop!

Ingredients:
8 slices of sandwich bread (I used whole wheat)
softened cream cheese
assortment of jams, fresh fruit, whatever you want inside your toast
2 eggs
3 tablespoons of milk
1/3 cup sugar
1 heaping teaspoon of cinnamon

How To:
Cut the crust off of each bread slice and then flatten the crust-less slice with a rolling pin

Then place whatever filling you like inside towards the end of a piece of bread. I did them all with cream cheese and two each with apricot jam, strawberry jam, raspberry jam, and blackberry jam. Next time if I have fresh fruit I would def add it!

Then roll those puppies up and dip them in the mixture of egg and milk.

Then brown them in a skillet and then after browned roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture.

Ta-da!!

The Dress

Most girls go into their dress fitting knowing exactly what they want in a dress. A vision. I did not. I decided to try and pick one dress in a picture to bring. For some reason I had it in my mind that going in without some sort of idea was me unprepared.

So I arrive at the bridal salon and show the really nice girl who helped me with my dress shopping my picture.

I so appreciated her honesty when she immediately said the dress in the picture would not look good on my body.

I am sure she saved me from trying on unnecessary dresses.

She knew from the second she looked at me what kind of dress would look good on me.
I tried four dresses on.
The third dress was my dress.

I took my mom and my sister to the dress fitting.
Anyone ever seen Say Yes to the Dress?
Too many people is a big problem.
I do wish my other sister was able to make it though.

The dress fit perfectly. I needed to lose a couple pounds to remove the back fat and it was a little long for me (and yes I did trip slightly at my wedding) but other then that, perfect.

I bought it that day straight from the floor. Kept me within budget. Granted the top of my budget, but it was worth it!
My favorite part was the back.

I also got a veil there. I thought it was too much and I wasn't sure I liked it, but my mom told me to trust her.
She always knows what I like before I do.

Kevin liked it too.
