When Your Metabolism Slows Down

Ugh. My metabolism just is not the same anymore. It is not very fun.

I had this post where I had this great plan to get into shape. Well...recovering from my knee injury and having a bad back has been making it hard. 

It has now been 7 months since my surgery. I have definitely been strengthening the leg but it is a long process. I would never wish this process on anyone. Tearing my ACL, MCL, and LCL probably wasn't the best idea. Thankfully I had a great surgeon who took a piece of my hamstring and made me a new ACL. I also had a great physical therapist to help me through the recovery process and lastly I had my mom and husband who were there for whatever I needed. I joked that I wished I was a NFL football player who had torn my ACL. Those players make a lot of money even when they are hurt and have a state of the art team helping them get better. But now that I am in my recovery, my team, well, I wouldn't trade them for the world. They are awesome.

But apart from my slower metabolism and my knee setting me back, I am realizing that my body is already changing in other ways. I am only 26...how is this possible?! I don't need a pity party, but are any of you guys feeling the age?! There are fine lines that I have never previously had to worry about. Plus now I have some pizza and I then I can't fit into my pants. 

Chocolate is my weakness. I have tried to go with European researchers idea. Some European researchers say that eating chocolate was associated with lower levels of body fat because chocolate is high in catechins which increase insulin sensitivity. Green tea also has catechins...that is probably healthier, but still, I can have chocolate once a day (at least!)

Well, off to the gym I should go!

  1. Aww that sucks, but sometimes it takes time to get back in action. I have a hard time loosing I always been up and down in my weight and it sucks. All you can do is try :)

  2. Oh I totally get where you're coming from! As long as you keep trying, that's all that matters!

  3. "are any of you guys feeling the age?!" - If it's any consolation to you, every time I go to the barber now I scan my hair clippings anxiously for signs of grey. I don't care if it's vanity: the first sign of white hair and I'm buying a vat of "Just for men".

  4. Ouch! My coworker just tore her ACL and meniscus and had surgery a couple weeks ago. I am going to be 26 in exactly a week and I definitely am feeling it. My body is not what it used to be at 16 that's for sure!
