Deep Cleaning Your House

Summer is a great time to get some of those icky cleaning jobs you never want to do. Especially here in Arizona since going outside during the summer is just asking for heatstroke. Here are some of the ways you can keep your house looking good.

25 Ways to Deep Clean Your Home

1. Wipe down the legs of all your chairs. Dust tends to accumulate on these.

2. Wipe down all your baseboards with a wet cloth (or scrub them if you have let them go like I have). Then follow up by rubbing them with a dryer sheet. This will prevent dust from sticking.

3. Clean behind and underneath all furniture. Move beds, scoot dressers away from the wall and get all the dust that builds up. There will be a good amount of it!

4. Dust all fan blades. Just a tip, lie a sheet down underneath the fan. the dust will go everywhere!

5. Wipe down all cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom. Lots of grease and fingerprints build up on these.

6. Do a light dusting and wipe of the lampshades.

7. Touch up any spots on the wall with paint that need it. Stir the paint really well first.
Especially the bar area where everyone's feet hit the wall.

8. Then check out the door to the garage. This accumulates a lot of marks. Try scrubbing it and if not paint it.

9. Re-caulk any areas that need it (especially around the kitchen sink, bathroom sink, or bathtub.)

10. Wipe down all blinds.

11. Clean out the fridge. Really well.

12. Clean out your freezer. Discard any old food and organize all that stuff you've thrown in there over the past months.

13. Clean your couch. Don't forget to remove the cushions to vacuum too.

14. Wipe down door handles and light switches.

15. Clean your microwave, stove top, and oven.

16. Vacuum and wipe out kitchen drawers. Crumbs tend to collect there.

17. Dust and wipe down the top of your cabinets and fridge.

18. Clean vents. Remove metal vents and air registers. Spray them down with hose outside. Vacuum or wipe down the floor around the vents as dust gets trapped under the edges of the vents. If you have wooden vents just vacuum them really well.

19. Wipe down the front and back of all the doors in your house. You will have more doors than you think! I have 15 (not counting that dirty garage door) in my 3bedroom/2bathroom house.

20. Oh and that above number doesn't count my sliding glass door. Give that glass and all the windows and other glass (mirrors, etc..) in your house a good cleaning. I highly suggest Sprayaway.  Or by making your own Windex. My mom swears by it. I believe it is on Pinterest somewhere...

21. Sweep and spray down your garage floor. It could use a little TLC I am sure.

22. Take a pumice stone to your toilets and then clean them. Works wonders! I promise! I get mine at Bed Bath and Beyond by the brand Earthstone. They have them in New Mexico. My mom even sends the pumice stone to Ohio to my aunt. Yes it is that good.

23. You can only use a pumice stone on porcelain so take a magic eraser to the bottom of your shower and tub. I love magic erasers too!

24: Give your electronics a clean. All you need is 50% distilled water and 50% Rubbing alcohol. Oh and don't use a paper towel. They can leave little nicks in your screen. You can use a microfiber cloth or a cloth from a cotton or flannel shirt. Just be sure that the cloth you are using was not washed with fabric softener...that will cause streaks on your screen worse than before. Also never spray directly on the screen because you don't want drip marks or it to drip into the corner of your screen and accidentally fry your electronics.

25. Clean your phone with the same stuff. Your phone is probably one of the most germy things...

Should we move onto the car?!? haha!
Your welcome for not putting pictures of me cleaning. That is a site for sore eyes...
Sweaty, dirty, and grimy. I will save the experience for you!

  7. Oh, the baseboards and the fans. I probably don't do those more than once a year. I do tend to deep clean my kitchen fairly regularly, and Angel's crazy about cleaning all handles and doorknobs with disinfectant. We probably need to move all of our furniture around to vaccum and see what has collected behind the couch, that's for sure!
You came up with quite a comprehensive list, girl!

  11. #10 ...my Mom taught me a trick when it comes to blinds ...take them down, hang them in the backyard and sprap 'em with a hose with a little a dish soap and let them dry. Depending on how dirty they are, sometimes this is easier then wiping them down.

  14. Great tips! I have tip for the fan blades. Use a pillow case to gather the dust. Fit iron the blade like a glove, then pull from the top and bottom. It dusts over and under and all the dust falls not the case.
